Philanthropic Committee

Our guild has an active philanthropic committee composed of three quilters. But, actually, this part of the guild is composed of all of our members. We are a team of about 250 busy quilters ready and willing to serve others through the quilting talents that we have. Some of our members like to piece a quilt top, some like to quilt the three layers together, some like to do the binding and some like to do the whole quilt from start to finish. Each year we have a goal of completing and donating 200 quilts. We donate quilts to One Safe Place (Women's refuge), Child Protective Services, Mercy Hospital Pediatrics and Mercy Cancer Center. In the past we have donated to the Veteran's Home and to fire victims in our local area who have lost everything. The quilts that we make for these charities are a gift of warmth, love, caring and security to the recipients of the quilts. The yearly Sew-In is one of our Spring guild meetings which is a fun opportunity to quilt together for these local charit ies

Pet Beds

Although it isn't an official group, many guild members are involved in making pet beds using left over fabric and batting scraps. The completed beds are donated to various animal shelters and pet adoption agencies and businesses, as well as the Bella Vista Animal Sanctuary. The beds are made in a variety of sizes to provide comfort from the smallest kitten to the largest dogs. This is our way of repurposing the scraps and keeping them out of the landfills. Our guild has donated over 800 beds to our furry friends.

Comfort Bags
Another way our guild members supports our local community is by making fabric bags that are then filled with a variety of toiletry items for women, men and children who come to One SAFE Place in Redding. Formerly known as Shasta Women's Refuge and Family Justice Center, One SAFE Place is an organization that is devoted to helping individuals of domestic and sexual abuse throughout Shasta County. The comfort bags are simple but colorful fabric drawstring bags that are filled with the small necessities of life - soap, washcloths, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, deodorant, Kleenex, hairbrush, combs, disposable razor and feminine products. All items for the bags are donated by our generous members. When available, we include nail products and tools, socks and hair bands. We even include a couple of pieces of candy to sweeten their day and let them know that someone does care.
