The theme for this year’s Quilt Show is “Quilters’ Salute to the Sundial Bridge” at the Shasta District Fairgrounds.  $10 entry fee

Category Definitions

A quilt must be at least three layers – backing, filler and top – held together primarily with stitching through all layers and bound. In the art and dimensional categories, entries must consist of a least two layers with sewing, stitching, tying or fastening through the two layers.

  • Perimeter: To determine the perimeter size of the quilt, add the length plus the width then multiply by 2.

  • Art Quilt: The work must be predominantly fabric or fabric like material. The top layer may be created by any combination of the following techniques:
  1. Applique: Hand, machine, raw edge, turned under, fusible, reverse.
  2. Color Application: Hand-dying, tie dying, stamping, fabric painting.
  3. Embellishing: Beading, buttons, cording, yarn, hand-stitching, paper. No glitter allowed.
  4. Embroidery: Hand, machine, free-standing.
  5. Machine Stitches: Decorative, faux hand-quilt, zigzag, satin stitch, twin needles.
  6. Piecing: Straight, curved, strip.
  7. Quilting: Hand, domestic, long arm, free motion.
  8. Thread: Thread painting, free motion embroidery, free motion quilting, bobbin-work, couching.
  9. Miscellaneous: Needle felting, photo transfers, foiling, heat gun distressed fabric, Broderie Perse.
  • Art Quilt – Original Design: Original design.
  • Art Quilt – Non-Original Design: Uses a pattern for the entire quilt or elements of the quilt.
  • Modern Quilts: Modern quilts are functional and inspired by modern design. Characteristics include, but are not limited to: geometric designs, the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work.
  • Dimensional Work: Garments, totes, purses, dolls, etc.
  • Machine Embroidered: Any size, 75% or more embroidered
  1. Hand Embroidered: Any size, 25% or more embroidered

Additional Guidelines

1. Two color photographs must be included with the registration form. These pictures may be printed on paper.

2. Entries must have a 4″ sleeve sewn across the back for hanging.

3. Entries must have an identification label. In addition, baste the paper Article Label from the registration form to the lower right-hand corner of the back.

4. Quilts previously entered in a Quilters’ Sew-ciety quilt show are not eligible. The Quilters’ Sew-ciety reserves the right to limit the number of entries and their categories.

5. Final placement of entries in a category will be determined by the Quilt Show Chair, Registration Chair, and/or the Judge.

6. Registration may be completed online; however, registration will not be complete until the fee is received.

7. You will be given a receipt at Drop Off that will be your claim check at Pick Up approximately 1 hour after the quilt show closes.
