2022 Quilt Show Challenge
Sew-Ciety Quilt Challenges
Challenge Theme: Each quilter will select a featured woman to interpret “her story” by
creating a quilt. Only one quilt/featured woman. The quilt can depict the actual woman
and/or her accomplishments or the quilter’s interpretation of what the woman is
notable for. The quilts can be realistic, whimsical, humorous, and can be pieced, fused,
appliquéd, embellished, and be hand or machine made.
This is the Smilebox video of the 2014 California State Parks challenge quilts made by
members of the Quilters' Sew-ciety of Redding, Inc. and includes photos from some of
the venues where the quilts were exhibited for two years. This was the 2014 quilt
challenge to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the California State Parks. It also
sparked a state-wide effort to make quilts of the state parks (which are shown on the
Calif. State Parks' webpage (below)

This is the California State Parks' 150th Anniversary Webpage with a link to the Online
Quilt Show that includes 156 state park quilts made by quilters throughout the state.
The first 57 quilts on there were made by quilters of the Quilters' Sew-ciety of Redding,
Inc.

This is a Smilebox video that was made by The Quilt Life founders Alex Anderson and
Ricky Tims and posted to their website, and features the 2012 River of Quilts Challenge
by the Quilters' Sew-ciety of Redding depicting 25 quilts of the Sacramento River. The
quilts were hung in a staggered manner next to each other lining up the river, so that
the river flowed through the 50 feet of the exhibit. This exhibit travelled and was
exhibited for 18 months.

Paint Chip Quilt Challenge” – Following our “Rhapsody in Blue” theme, quilters will create a
quilt using specific blue colors from a paint chip provided to them, white, and an optional
third color. They may be any shape or quilt style (traditional pieced, art, thread painting,
applique, etc.) within a size range of 12” x 36” minimum/maximum).
